Farms and
Agriculture

Agriculture plays a vital role in shaping our community.

Ohio’s agricultural legacy is more than a tradition—it’s the bedrock for many of our small towns, and its high time to shift economic power from corporations to our communities by investing in local farmers and our agricultural workforce.

Growing up in Johnstown, surrounded by the sprawling beauty of Ohio’s farms, Nick understands the hard work that farmers endure every season so that we can feed our community. Helping to raise livestock on his family’s farm, Nick learned firsthand the importance of working and caring for something larger than himself. Guided by these lessons and experiences, Nick is a strong advocate for family farms, those who are just beginning farming, and the agricultural workforce.

By being in the community and listening to the concerns of farmers, we can create a new agricultural boom that is centered around expanding and encouraging family farms and the buying of locally grown products. Nick’s platform on farms and agriculture include:

  • Supporting Family Farms:

    • Champion policies that encourage and safeguard family farms, ensuring they have equitable access to opportunities and a fair market.

  • Sustainable Agriculture:

    • Advocate for the widespread adoption of sustainable agriculture practices across all farm sizes. Promote methods that prioritize the responsible use of land, fostering long-term sustainability within our agricultural sector.

  • Agricultural Job Growth:

    • Invest in initiatives that provide young people with hands-on agricultural experience. Support programs like apprenticeships and after-school activities that engage students in all facets of agriculture, cultivating the next generation of skilled and passionate individuals in the field.

  • Farm-to-Fork Initiatives:

    • Promote farm-to-fork initiatives to increase the availability of locally grown products. By fostering a connection between local farms and communities, not only does this contribute to the economic well-being of the region, but it also enhances the overall health and vitality of our communities.

  • Supporting New and Resurgent Farms:

    • Implement tax incentives and allocate state funding to encourage the establishment and revitalization of farms. By continuing to invest in programs like the Beginner Farmer Tax Credit and the Current Agricultural Use Valuation, we foster an environment where new and returning farmers can thrive.

  • Cultivating the Next Generation:

    • Devote resources to provide economic and educational support to Ohioans venturing into the agriculture industry. This commitment ensures that aspiring individuals have the necessary tools and knowledge to embark on successful agricultural pursuits, contributing to the growth and vibrancy of our farming community.
